Hi, I’m Sophia. I’m a professional editor with over a decade of experience in the publishing industry, including several years in both adult and children’s acquisitions at Simon & Schuster.
I’ve edited everything from picture books to fantasy novels to adult nonfiction, and have been fortunate to work with many authors of bestsellers, award winners, and “best of the year” picks.
In 2024, I left acquisitions and started offering freelance editorial services. If you’re interested in working together, please reach out here.

Testimonials
“Sophia Jimenez is a gem of an editor. From big picture to fine tuning, her questions and suggestions were shrewd, thoughtful and kind. My books are better because of her.”
—Gail Donovan, award-winning author of the Sparrow Being Sparrow series
“Sophia edited two of my nonfiction picture books, As the Seas Rise (2024) and From the Fields to the Fight (forthcoming from Simon & Schuster/Atheneum). From the beginning, I knew I was in excellent, capable hands. Sophia's editorial notes were detailed and easy to understand and implement. Her suggestions were always spot-on and strengthened my manuscripts through each round of edits. She always allowed room for my vision to remain and provided the space to discuss alternate ways to reach the same goal. Because of Sophia, my stories were in the best possible shape for publication, and I will continue to entrust her with reviewing and editing future manuscripts, both for me personally and for my publishing company.”
—Angela Quezada Padron, author of As the Seas Rise and founder of Dream Jar Publishing

“It was a pleasure to work with Sophia on Free to Learn. She helped me think about every aspect from the big picture of the structure of the book down to the little but important details of word choice and punctuation. And she was always responsive and encouraging!”
—Cynthia Levinson, award-winning author of Free to Learn and The Youngest Marcher
“Sophia edited my debut picture biography, Daughter of the Light-Footed People, which went on to earn a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Award and multiple starred reviews from Booklist, Publishers Weekly and The Horn Book, and was named one of New York Public Library’s Best Books of 2024. Her thoughtful feedback brought my writing to the next level. Throughout the process, she was kind, responsive and provided insightful comments. I am sure my book would not have been so well received without her guiding editorial hand.”
—Belen Medina, author of Daughter of the Light-Footed People
"I loved working with Sophia! She has a knack for offering feedback that's gentle and insightful. As I always say, when it comes to critique an editor does not need to be brutal to be honest—and Sophia gets that! Her advice for strengthening my manuscript, including refining dialogue and clarifying characters’ motivations and backstory, helped make the story more impactful for readers, and her edits were presented in a way that left me feeling empowered and excited to dive into revisions. I also appreciated her trust in me as the author, and that she never pushed me to make edits that didn't resonate with my vision for the story. I highly recommend working with her."
